Egyptian design duo siblings Aya and Mounaz Abdelraouf launched their brand Okhtein – meaning, appropriately, “sisters” in Arabic – because of their vision to redefine the idea of "luxury." In a fast-paced world where fashion is ever-changing, OKHTEIN believes in designing statement pieces and utilizing the finest materials to last in any wardrobe. OKHTEIN remains true to its core values; providing top luxury craftsmanship whilst remaining on-trend.

Recognizing a gap in the market, OKHTEIN has pushed its way into the hearts of clients by offering accessible luxury pieces that can truly outfit any woman. Born and raised in Cairo, Aya and Mounaz’s fascination with fashion began at a young age with Aya studying communication and media arts along with digital arts and design at the American University of Cairo. Her sister Mounaz, studied marketing and art at the same institution. As well as this, Mounaz is a highly skilled painter and has exhibited her work in galleries in Egypt and Paris.

Artisanal Craftsmanship

Okhtein is all about the revival of the world’s rich history, vast cultures and art to the betterment of today’s creativity. Each Okhtein product has a unique provenance with deep cultural associations. To manufacture their products, Aya and Mounaz felt compelled to take a philanthropic approach to their work. It all started with Old Cairo and it's architectural beauty. Working with artisans who have inherited the talent of brass making, the sisters brought the first collection to life. From there, brass has always been an intricate part of the brand.

Where It All Started

Mounaz' Vision

Is very much inspired by history and jewelry and has a loud aesthetic. She loves mixing the colors gold, black and silver together and is always leaning towards the brass metal.

Aya's Vision

Aya- is more on the minimal and subtle look and feel of things. She’s more inspired by the leather part and loves to create form and shape- toning down Mounaz’ loudness.
This just shows that the brand has a balance between setting trends in terms of applying new trends to leatherworks and reviving historical jewelry.
